One person’s rubbish is another person’s treasure
I am a bit of a scavenger. I can’t walk past a skip without having a look, you just never know what might turn out to be just the thing you always needed but never knew! All Italian houses have a cantina which is kind of a cross between a basement, garage and cold store. It can be the place things get dumped when not needed any more as well as where you can store all the produce and preserves ready for the winter months out of the heat of the summer sun. Often when a house is sold the cantina is just left full for the next person to deal with. Fortunately for me that meant the finding of some treasures in the form of old papers, magazines, school exercise books and letters. Much of it was from the 1950’s and 60’s a bit faded and chewed. This kind of ephemera is perfect collage material and has a very unique feel and look. Suffice as to say many hours of bliss was had playing with them.
